Devon+Zach | Pittsburgh Riverside Micro-Wedding

We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love. -Dr Seuss

It was December of 2015, when Devon and Zach were introduced to each other at work. But it would be another seven months until they talked again. They aren't sure what got them to start talking, but Devon does remember one of their first conversations was about Harry Potter. After those initial work chats, Zach began to flirt with Devon. She totally admits that this would turn her face bright red and she would even run away. Thinking that Zach was way cooler than her. As time went on, she realized he was just a big goofball and since love has a way of bringing two people together that are meant for each other, they began dating in 2016.

They both agree that their shared goofiness and weirdness is what made them fall in love, finding comfort in the other’s quirks.

Staying true to them, they had in Devon’s words a “strange lead-up to our proposal and wedding.”  Zach had been stationed in Pensacola since November 2019 while Devon was back living in Maryland.  They had been discussing getting married a lot, and one day they just decided to do it. However, at this time there hadn't been a formal proposal yet. When Zach finally returned from Pensacola in June 2020, they headed to Pittsburgh to get a few wedding things done with their families. Once finished in Pittsburgh, they drove to Michigan to see Devon's parents.  At this point Devon had given up that Zach was going to propose during the trip because she was convinced he would have done it in Pittsburgh. To Devon’s surprise, Zach had a different plan. Devon’s parents live on a lake in Michigan and so while visiting they decided to spend some time together on the dock late one night. They were hoping to get a glimpse of the Milky Way which can be viewed here if you’re lucky. Once alone with nothing around but the stars above and ring in hand, Zach proposed!

Within just a few short months they planned a wedding in Pittsburgh while living outside of DC, during a pandemic. Talk about determination! Though their original large scale wedding shifted to an intimate micro-wedding, they were still able to pull off an incredibly beautiful day! Between the riverside views and lush tropical ceremony setting, paired with Zach’s cream colored suit jacket, there were some major Miami vibes happening! Devon wore a classic lace dress with cut-out back, which brought out a true smile every time she twirled! They shared private vowels during their first look, spent their ceremony with friends and family as their friend officiated and drank good beer paired with German food during their reception dinner at Hofbräuhaus. It was a day filled with small shared moments and lots of laughter, a day that embraced the two of them with love!

Devon+Zach, we loved being a part of your wedding day. Your families were so welcoming and you made us feel like we were truly sharing in your day like old friends. We wish that the years that lay ahead are filled with many travels to far away places, Harry Potter marathons, and plenty of time curled up on the couch eating Chuy’s take out!
