How to Prepare for Your Boudoir Photo Shoot

Let these four tips help ease your nerves and affirm that you are going to rock your session.

A boudoir session can be one of the most exciting and body affirming acts a woman can do for herself. It is a session meant to embrace your “self love” time. A session to celebrate being the woman that you are. A boudoir session should capture the essence of you. Whether you come in beaming with confidence or a bit shy, I guarantee you will see yourself in a new light!

You made the bold step to book a boudoir photography session. But now thoughts creep in like what the heck will I wear, how do I prepare and what did I just sign up for? Breathe. I'm here to work alongside you to make this experience everything it should be.

BE HONEST.

Start by being honest about what you like to wear when it comes to lingerie and what you feel the most sexy in. If strappy, lacey, barely there pieces aren't your thing, it's okay! Sometimes we feel our sexiest in boy shorts and a baggy sweater. Don’t feel pressured to go splurge on pieces you don’t feel confident in. We can still get killer images and you’ll be feeling awesome!

BRING EXTRA.

I tell boudoir clients to bring at least 3 different “outfits”. Typically one risque+sexy, one cute+flirty, and one that you totally feel like a queen in! Sometimes, the outfits are all the same type of style, if you want bold leave out the cute+flirty and vise versa. Regardless of what your base outfits are, be sure to bring extra bras, panties, t-shirts/sweaters, jewelry+accessories. There's always a chance that certain pieces won't fit or feel right the day of your session. So having extra outfits/pieces to choose from will help ensure we get you into something you feel your best in! You seriously can’t bring too much, so have fun with it!

PS when choosing what to bring stick to colors that aren't bright or fluorescent tones.

SELF-CARE.

Take care of your skin, hair and nails the week of your session. Hydrate the week of your shoot. Drink water consistently, your skin will love it and it will give you a refreshed look! Exfoliate, ideally three days beforehand. Check-in with your hair, if you color your hair have your roots touched up, and even book a trim if you feel it is necessary. Prep your nails and toes, a simple neutral, light pink, or classic french tip is all you need to add the finishing touch to your glowing skin. Oh, and please rest up and get a good night’s sleep the day before your session...we all need that reminder!

LOVE YOURSELF.

Make a promise to yourself and to me that you won’t participate in any negative self-talk during your session. You are beautiful, inside and out. Take some time the week of your session to acknowledge three things you love about yourself. A feature about your physical appearance, something you are wildly passionate about and something that makes you proud of you. Keep these in mind during your session, leave the negative body shaming at the door and just have fun! I promise that these rules alone will bring out your best most flattering self!
