Austin Blue Bonnet Engagement Session | Ashleen+Sam

April is blue bonnet season in Texas and if you’ve never experienced the endless fields of beautiful blue flowers in person, I highly suggest booking a quick weekend getaway to see this natural wonder! When Ashleen and Sam invited us down to Texas to photograph their engagement session, their biggest focus was on capturing this once a year bloom. So we hopped on a plane and spent three days exploring around Austin. On day two we drove out to Texas Hill Country and met up with them and their pup Mia for an incredible evening in one of the most beautiful spots in Texas!

We started at Krause Springs, which has a lush almost tropical scenery mixed with more desert cactus filled areas reminiscent of true Texas. Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country lies Krause Springs, a scenic oasis that beckons visitors seeking a relaxing escape. This natural area boasts stunning natural springs, lush vegetation, and vibrant waters. One of the highlights of Krause Springs is its iconic waterfall, where cascading waters display against a backdrop of rugged limestone cliffs. If you're seeking a fun outdoor summer adventure while in the Austin area, Krause Springs is a must-visit destination.

From Krause Springs we made the short drive over to Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area (a prime location to view the blue bonnet bloom) where we played among the blue bonnets as the hot Texas sun set. To end their engagement session, Ashleen and Sam shared a dance at twilight illuminated only by the lights on Sam’s truck. Pro-tip if you choose to come here for the blue bonnets, I suggest driving into the park a bit further than right at the initial start of the flower fields. That area tends to be crowded with those trying to get the perfect Instagram shot. Continuing a few minutes into the park loop gets you away from the crowds and the fields are just as, if not more impressive!
