Boho Chic Backyard Wedding | Mariah+Luke

It isn’t often that we photograph big weddings, but when Jp’s cousin reached out about her own wedding we were totally on board! Mariah+Luke are family and we knew that the day would be full of meaningful moments. We happily transitioned from elopement backpacks to our favorite wedding attire, fully prepared to photograph the biggest day between the two of them!

Mariah and Luke knew each other through mutual friends in high school but their paths never totally crossed. Mariah admits that Luke tried taking her out for about two and a half years, all while nicely shutting him down. Finally after pursuing her for what seemed like forever, they spontaneously decided to meet up at a local bar+restaurant for drinks. Mariah admits timing is everything and from that moment their relationship took off!

In March of 2020, Luke proposed. He brought Mariah and her daughter Makinley on a surprise trip to Mcconnell’s Mill State Park. Mariah, having no idea Luke had even bought a ring, didn't have a clue what the trip was all about but happily went along with it. Mariah’s mom met up with them and Luke had them take a few photos together as a cover. When everything felt just right, he surprised Mariah and asked her to marry him. Obviously she said yes!

Mariah says that Luke's compassion was the first thing she fell in love with. From day one he has cared about not only her but also Makinley. This could be seen in the way he proposed, being sure to involve her. It was true on their wedding day as well.

Throughout the day they made sure to include Makinley, from her getting ready with all the girls, to a letter and gift exchange from Luke on the church altar, all the way through the reception where Luke and Makinley shared a dance together. To see how beautifully they came together not only as husband+wife but also as a family was emotional to say the least.

Mariah is such a fun, caring and vibrant woman and these traits totally compliment Luke’s supportive yet humorous personality. Add in their close knit wedding party and it was the perfect combination for an awesome wedding day! From getting ready, to the church and all the way to the backyard reception, there wasn't a boring moment with this group! There was plenty of laughter and a fair share of tears throughout the day, lending the vibe to feel more like an intimate gathering than a big wedding. This just proves that a little intentionality+emotion can go a long way with making your day feel extra special and unique to you!

Mariah+Luke, we are so blessed to have been a part of your wedding day and we wish you so much love and happiness in the years to come! You two are a joy to be around and we know that your caring, funny personalities will take you far on your journey as husband and wife. With all of our love, congratulations!
